Why Green Papyrus? Why now?

There is never a good time to start a supplement company. Just ask all of the smartest people you know. Then, ask anyone who has ever done it before. Then, keep searching for more people to ask until people start avoiding you in the hallway. Then, conduct in-depth market research that confirms this is a terrible idea. We did all of this and then went ahead and started a supplement company.
So, why?
Why, in the face of all common sense, all expert advice and turning deaf ears to the pleas of our nearest and dearest, are we launching Green Papyrus in June 2026?
To understand, consider these numbers:
In the 1980s, 46% of American adults were overweight or obese.
In 2024, 72% of American adults are overweight or obese.
To break the category down a little bit more, men went from 51.4% overweight and obese to 74.8%. Women, went from 40.8% in the 80s obese and overweight to 69.5% in 2024. And probably most disturbing of all, childhood obesity went from -5.2% to 21.1%, a quadruple raise. This is not news. It’s been in the headlines and discussed endlessly on every media platform for the past 50 years. Americans are getting fatter. And fatter. And fatter.
As this crisis swept across America, various solutions were proposed. If you are old enough, you remember when we were told fat makes you fat. So, companies removed fats from food and replaced it with sugar. Then, they demonized carbohydrates, and we entered the era of Paleo and keto. And we kept gaining weight. So many gurus came to save us and left with our money, but without turning the tide.
But more than just increasing girth, we got sicker. Diseases typically found in people in their 60s and 70s are now being diagnosed in people in their 20s. Like type two diabetes. We learned about insulin resistance, NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disorder)– – not terms our grandparents ever heard. IBS symptoms are so common that they are considered a mark of the Millennial and Gen Z generations. Leaky gut is so well known that it might as well be a popular Netflix series. All of this pointed to a conclusion that is so stunningly obvious, it is almost hard to see.
When it is all of us, it is none of us. It is the system. It is the systematic poisoning of a once healthy population.
This is where Green Papyrus came in. Instead of looking at the modern industrial food supply and trying to change it, we looked backwards. Way, way, way backwards, thousands of years, to the ancient Egyptians and the agricultural traditions of the Nile Valley. There, on the walls of royal tombs, was painted depictions of a plant cultivated since antiquity and so treasured that its very name means “of the king”, but was completely unknown to us.
It is called molokhia.
We turned to the scientists and we learned they have already shown in pre-clinical data, the impact on weight, inflammation, and the gut barrier. For more details about that, please check out the blog post about the science of Green Papyrus. Because of the climate requirements, growing the plant molokhia in the west was impractical. But we quickly realized we could grow it in the fertile soil of Egypt and process it into a green powder that we could then ship around the world.
And this is why we began this journey. Our purpose is to bring Green Papyrus, a single ingredient, 100% pure, 100% vegan, ancient Egyptian superfood to the world.
Because we saw that, here, at last, was something that could help,
We started a supplement company.
